Welcome back to week 2! Hang in there, this e-money series will be worth it! This week we are talking about a money hack to save money quickly!
THE 3-DAY SPENDING FREEZE!
"What?!? you want me to stop spending money, I can't do that, I won't do that, that is stupid....." It's just 3 days friends, 3 Days....
This doesn't have to be a big deal, honestly it takes very little preparation and its over before you know it. Just pick a day; Tuesday is a good one...then don't spend a thing Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday... those are lame days anyway.
Look at your calendar, make a plan for those days and pack a lunch and prepare dinner- take the cash, debit or credit card out of your wallet and make a plan to not spend a dime. If you have a gift card that will cover dinner including tip, go and enjoy.
A Spending Freeze IS:
A quick way to free up money you were otherwise using for groceries, entertainment, clothing and personal care.
A good way to reset yourself after a busy Christmas/ Party/ Vacation season
An awesome excuse to do some "shelf cooking"- Pancakes for Everyone!
APPROVED During Freeze:
Use of a gift card to purchase something you would have bought with your money that week
A light top up of the gas tank (not the full tank...just $20 will do)
Emergency prescriptions
Pet food if you really can't make it through
What it is NOT:
An excuse to "stock up" the pantry in preparation for this FREEZE Du SPEND; its 3 days people, 3 days...
MUST DO:
Communicate it to your family members so everyone is working in unison for the same goal.
Take the actual savings and move it to an account or immediately pay a bill; otherwise it will be frittered away.
Hey Didn’t you say you wanted to build on your $1000 Emergency fund….well here you go!
Just like coming off a cleanse you wouldn't want to suddenly eat a couple large pizzas...that would overload your system. It's the same with a spending freeze; as you come off it you want to resume spending in a normal light fashion so as not to leave your monthly budget with a hangover.
